The Apples Were Gracious! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Marshall DeMeritt
Thursday, 07 March 2013 10:47

When we spent a week making Apple Butter this past October, the apples were about 500 quarts more friendly to us this year than they had been in the past. Therefore, we have about 30 cases of Apple Butter remaining. We would love for you to grab a few extra and take to your friends. We still have Sugar and Sugar-Free available. $7.00 /qt.

Also, if you have a business with walk-in traffic that would be willing to set a case out to sell for us, please advise Dennis Barron.

We have entered into a new year. What the year 2013 will bring us is interesting to consider. The challenges we will face, the encouragements we will need, and the problems we will encounter are always a surprise. I can say with certainty, one thing I am confident about is that the Shepherdstown Fire Department will be there to serve our beloved community through it all.

Shepherdstown Fire Department closed the year 2012 with approximately 320 fire responses, and approximately 1000 EMS responses; for a total response of approximately 1320.

The leadership of SFD for 2013 is:

  • Fire Chief – Ross Morgan,
  • Assistant Chief – Craig Simpson
  • Captain – Brian Fluharty
  • Lieutenant 3-1 – Andy Tarbell
  • Lieutenant 3-2 – Zack Morgan
  • Lieutenant 3-3 - Daniel Henderson

  • Chief 3 – Leslie Simpson
  • Assistant Chief 3 – Marshall DeMeritt
  • Captain 3 – Vacant
  • Lieutenant 3 – Coy Beverage
  • Lieutenant 3-1 - Nick Agnew

  • President – Craig Simpson
  • Vice President – George Anderson
  • Treasurer – Denny Barron
  • Assistant Treasurer - Jim Locke
  • Secretary - Libby Nester
  • Assistant Secretary – Dee Conner

The Shepherdstown Fire Department is prepared to provide professional, courteous service to our community throughout the year. However, we can not continue to serve without the support of our community. We use this opportunity to remind you that we need you. We need your prayers and emotional support. We need your financial and monetary support. We look forward to a wonderful new year, and we look forward to serving as the community needs us.

New Engine to be Placed in Service PDF Print E-mail
Written by Marshall DeMeritt
Tuesday, 04 December 2012 16:48

When: Sunday, December 16, 2012; 1:00pm

Where: Shepherdstown Fire Department

8052 Martinsburg Pike (Rt. 45), Shepherdstown, WV 25443

What: New Engine Dedication Ceremony

The Shepherdstown Fire Department (SFD) is thrilled to announce the dedication and placement into service of our new Engine 3. For two years the members of the Shepherdstown Fire Department have been planning and establishing the necessities to become a reality on this new Engine. Everything from the size of the water tank, to the placement of the flashlights has been a priority throughout the planning process. On December 16th, 2012 at 1pm the vision will become a reality as the members of the SFD will formally remove from service our 1989 Pierce Dash Engine, and replace it with our 2012 Pierce Velocity Engine. The ceremony will last approximately one hour and will include the formal removal of old Engine 3 and the formal wash and push in of new Engine 3. The surrounding community, mutual aid departments, and media outlets are strongly encouraged to attend this ceremony.

Our new Engine 3 has a 500 horse power motor with a 2,000 gallon per minute water pump and a tank that holds 750 gallons of water. She carries about 3,000 feet of fire hose, three ladders, and can transport six(6) firemen to the scene of an emergency in her state-of-the-art cabin. Fire hoses can be deployed from all four sides, and with seven(7) compartments, tools are efficiently stored. Designed with low hose beds and cross lays, this allows for quick, easy, aggressive deployment. Built as a firefighter friendly engine, we look forward to many years of service to the community with this fire engine.
