True courage and commitment was shown by all members of the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department as severe thunderstorms struck the area last week. Station 3 was dispatched and responded to over 48 emergency calls. Documented fire emergencies accounted for approximately 35 of those calls and EMS emergencies accounted for approximately 13 of those calls. Calls we responded to included power lines down, power poles down, trees down, trees into a structure, structure fires, trees on fire, and trees onto a car, just to name a few. Please be sure when thunderstorm warnings are issued that all cautions are taken to prevent injury to yourself and others. Please remain indoors and away from windows, if an emergency occurs please report it to the 911 center and help will be there as soon as possible!
